He was arrested and tortured by the Nazis and then liberated by resistance. He then took up arms and photograph his companions from the bush.

After the war, returned to Paris, he befriended Jacques Prévert and artists of his era, painters or poets. He became a reporter for Paris Match, which published many of his photos including Grace Kelly, Roland Petit, Jean Cocteau, Colette, Gina Lollobrigida, Edith Piaf, Orson Welles but also those minors Montceau-les-Mines ... He died in Paris in 1980.
