Follow the guide!

Pending show you the progress of work, I offer a brief tour of Rans.

Small village in the Jura, between Dole and Besancon, its inhabitants are called Rantiers and Rantières.
The town has about 450 inhabitants and soon 2 more :-)
Located at 238 meters, the town is bordered by the Lime Forest and is traversed by the river Doubs.
For the historical and heritage, Rans has forges, and a castle.

Forges de Rans

Forges de Rans is a metallurgical industrial establishment founded in 1705 on the banks of the Doubs.
It consisted of a blast furnace, a forge and refinery fires.
Iron ore was first extracted and then Dampierre mine opened in 1846 to Ougney.
With the development of ironworks Fraisans, four other blast furnaces were built in 1854, two wood, two coke (from coal).
The twentieth century saw the decline of this industry with the closure of mines Ougney in 1922. The last furnace shut off Rans in 1935.

Castle Rans

The Castle of Rans was built in the thirteenth century. It consisted of three wings surrounding a courtyard. He was also surrounded by wide moat fed by the waters of the Doubs.
It was largely destroyed in 1672 and rebuilt in 1840.
The dungeon is a large square tower, 16 meters square and 22 meters high, crowned with battlements and topped with a turret.
For the little story: Napoleon visited the castle on his return from the Italian campaign.
